MATTHEWS, September 24 — The story begins with a half-finished paint job and a missing roll of tape. On Sept. 24, 2026, Lowe’s Companies, Inc. (NYSE: LOW) announced the launch of drone delivery, making it the first home improvement retailer to offer the service. The pilot is now live at the Lowe’s store in Matthews, N.C., and delivers select home improvement items directly to DIY and Pro customers in as fast as 20 minutes.
The service is offered in partnership with Wing and DoorDash, and builds on those companies’ existing drone delivery operations in the Charlotte area. The initial pilot spans a curated list of eligible products, including hand tools and paint products, plus everyday household items such as soap, tape, all-purpose cleaner and batteries.
What the pilot covers
For now, the programme is deliberately narrow. The drone delivery pilot is limited to the Matthews, N.C., store and the curated product list, with no announced timeline for expansion to additional locations or products. Lowe’s said the move addresses a common pain point: forgotten supplies that can stall home improvement projects, whether a customer is midway through a paint job, tackling a weekend repair, or working on a jobsite.
“At Lowe’s, our mission is to solve problems and fulfill dreams for the home,” said Seemantini Godbole, chief information and AI officer at Lowe’s. “To achieve this mission, we’re removing friction from home improvement and making it easier for customers to enjoy their home.
Any technology we implement is designed to eliminate that friction so our customers can complete their projects quickly. By piloting drone delivery, we’re addressing a real project pain point with an innovative solution that is integrated into the retail journey, giving our hometown customers next-generation fulfillment right when they need it.”
Where it fits in the wider business
The launch adds to Lowe’s same-day fulfillment options, which include buy online, pick up in store; curbside pickup; and same-day delivery. The drone delivery pilot builds on Lowe’s broader efforts to use technology to transform how customers shop and how associates sell and work. Recent innovations include Mylow, Lowe’s AI assistant for customers, and Mylow Companion, its AI-powered assistant for store associates, which together have helped answer more than 25 million questions since launching in 2025.
Lowe’s Companies, Inc. is a FORTUNE® 100 home improvement company with total fiscal 2025 sales of more than $86 billion. The company employs approximately 300,000 associates and operates over 1,750 home improvement stores, 540 branches and 120 distribution centers.
Lowe’s is a core value S&P 500 equity stock and a dividend aristocrat. Based in Mooresville, N.C., Lowe’s supports the communities it serves through programs focused on community and home improvement. What to watch next is whether the Matthews pilot stays a single-store experiment or becomes the template for a wider rollout.
Lowe’s has announced no timeline for expanding the service to additional locations or products, so the answer will come from how the curated list performs in the Charlotte area.
